Symptoms
The following list of symptoms is by no means exhaustive. It is intended only as a guide to give you an idea of some of the many and varied symptoms which can be caused by internal anxiety and treated successfully with hypnotherapy. Addiction - Habitual psychological and physiological dependence on a substance or practice beyond ones control.
Agoraphobia - An irrational fear of open or public spaces. Or rather a fear of being out of control in open or public spaces.
Allergies - Abnormally high sensitivity to certain substances.
Anger - A powerfully strong emotion that is oriented toward some real or supposed grievance.
Anorexia (nervosa) - a serious eating disorder primarily of young women in their teens and early twenties that is characterised especially by a pathological fear of weight gain leading to faulty eating patterns, malnutrition, and usually excessive weight loss.
Anxiety - A state of apprehension, uncertainty, and fear resulting from the anticipation of a realistic or fantasized threatening event or situation, often impairing physical and psychological functioning.
Asthma - A condition often of allergic origin that is marked by laboured breathing accompanied by wheezing, by a sense of constriction in the chest, and often by attacks of coughing or gasping.
Bed-wetting - Enuresis. Involuntary discharge of urine, especially when occurring nocturnally during sleep. More common in children but can affect adults. accompanied by feelings of acute embarrassment, shame and high anxiety. Life-limiting.
Binge eating - Compulsive eating of large amounts of food in a short period of time usually following periods of extreme dieting. Or as a symptom of Bulimia.
Blushing - A reddening of the face, linked to social phobia.
Bruxism - The habit of unconsciously gritting or grinding the teeth usually during sleep.
Bulimia - An eating disorder, common especially among young women of normal or nearly normal weight, that is characterised by episodic binge eating and followed by feelings of guilt, depression, and self-condemnation. It is often associated with measures taken to prevent weight gain, such as self-induced vomiting, the use of laxatives, dieting, or fasting.
Chronic pain - Chronic pain is pain that goes on longer than six months. It does not respond to conventional medical treatment. In other words, chronic pain is pain that may not go away. What's more, chronic pain often has no concrete explanation and no tangible diagnosis.
Claustrophobia - An irrational fear of being in narrow or enclosed spaces.
Compulsions - An irresistible impulse to carry out an act, regardless of the rationality of the motivation.
Confidence issues - Absence of confidence; uncertainty; self doubt.
Cutting - Incidence of self harm.
Depression - A disorder characterised by an inability to concentrate, insomnia, loss of appetite, an inability to experience pleasure, feelings of extreme sadness, guilt, helplessness and hopelessness.
Fertility Problems - Unexplained fertility, where there is no physiological cause for the experienced infertility.
Fear of intimacy - An inability, through fear, to express or receive sexual love.
Hypertension - Persistent, abnormally elevated blood pressure.
IBS - Irritable Bowel Syndrome. A chronic functional disorder of the colon that is of unknown origin but is commonly considered to be of psychosomatic origin and that is characterised by the secretion and passage of large amounts of mucus, by constipation alternating with diarrhoea, and by cramping abdominal pain.
Impotence - The inability to achieve penile erection or to maintain an erection until ejaculation.
Insomnia - Chronic inability to fall asleep or remain asleep for an adequate length of time.
Lack of sex drive - a lack of physiological need for sexual activity.
Low libido - low sexual desire.
Low self-esteem - Always comparing oneself to others, self critical. Feelings of inadequacy, self-doubt and negativity.
M.E. - Myalgic Encephalomyelitis, commonly referred to as Chronic Fatigue Syndrome. Debilitating fatigue and a combination of flu like symptoms such as sore throat, swollen lymph glands, low-grade fever, headaches, and muscle pain or weakness.
Migraine - A severe recurring headache, usually affecting only one side of the head, that is characterised by sharp pain and is often accompanied by nausea, vomiting, and visual disturbances.
Nail biting - A nervous habit marked by tense nervousness or apprehension.
Nightmares - Dreams (or night terrors) arousing feelings of intense fear, horror, and distress.
Obsession - A persistent preoccupation of thought or act. The fulfilment of the obsession brings no satisfaction, only the recurring need to fulfil the obsession again and again.
OCD - Obsessive-compulsive disorder. A disorder in which the sufferer is beset with obsessions or compulsions or both and suffers extreme anxiety or depression through failure to think the obsessive thoughts or perform the compelling acts.
Panic attack - Also called anxiety attack. The sudden onset of intense anxiety, characterised by feelings of intense fear and apprehension and accompanied by palpitations, shortness of breath, sweating, and trembling.
Phobia - A persistent, abnormal, and irrational fear of a specific thing or situation that compels one to avoid it, despite the awareness and reassurance that it is not dangerous.
Premature ejaculation - Ejaculation during the early stages of sexual excitement or soon after the insertion of the penis into the vagina.
PTSD - Post Traumatic Stress Disorder. An anxiety disorder affecting individuals who have experienced profound emotional trauma, such as torture, rape, military combat, or a natural disaster, characterised by recurrent flashbacks of the traumatic event, nightmares, eating disorders, anxiety, fatigue, forgetfulness, and social withdrawal.
Self Harm - Intentional self-injury.
Social anxiety - An exaggerated type of shyness, characterised by persistent and strong feelings of anxiety when facing certain social situations.
Sexual problems - Any problems of a sexual nature.
Shy bladder - Paruresis. Affecting men, this is the inability to pass urine in public. It is linked to social phobia.
Skin disorders - Conditions affecting the skin for example, eczema.
Stuttering/stammering - A disorder of vocal communication marked by involuntary disruption or blocking of speech (as by spasmodic repetition or prolongation of vocal sounds), by fear and anxiety, and by a struggle to avoid speech errors.
Tension - Mental, emotional or nervous strain.
Thumb sucking - The habit of sucking a thumb beyond the period of physiological need. Indicative of high anxiety levels.
Tinnitus - A sound in one or both ears, such as buzzing, ringing, or whistling, occurring without an external stimulus.
Trichotillomania - Hair pulling. The compulsion to tear or pluck out the hair on one's head and face.
Vaginismus - A prolonged and painful muscular contraction that causes the vagina to close; an anxiety reaction usually making penetration impossible.
